COVID-19 Reaction

Viewers, take to social media as presenters fail to introduce social distancing guidelines

Ruth has pledged to “keep the smile on” after she and husband Eamonn Holmes came into a storm of criticism on Friday’s This Morning.

The ITV presenters were forced to defend themselves when nitpicking viewers pointed out they were breaking the government’s coronavirus guidelines and sitting less than two metres apart while hosting the show.

As the couple later discussed the COVID-19, Eamonn then told how his wife has been feeling ‘anxious’ amid the pandemic.

He said: ‘A lot of people are very anxious. I’m looking at my wife, she’s a very anxious person.

But the rules don’t apply to those who live in the same household, as Eamonn was forced to point out on camera.

“As regards to social distancing, don’t bother phoning in and saying, ‘Why are these two together?'” he told fans at home.

“We’re together all day in the house. We live together. In case a lot of you don’t know this, we actually do.”

Now Ruth has returned to social media where she updated followers about life on lockdown.

Sharing a clip of her and Eamonn’s pet dog, Ruth wrote over it on Instagram : “Good morning! Keep the smile on!”
