Two more arrests after man stabbed to death near Commonwealth Games stadium


Detectives investigating a fatal stabbing in Perry Barr have arrested two more men on suspicion of murder.

The victim – who hasn’t yet been formally identified – was knifed in the neck in the early hours of Tuesday, March 2.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Perry Villa Drive, but despite their efforts the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road is near the Alexander Stadium, which will host track and field elements of the Commonwealth Games next year.

Police today – March 3 – confirmed they had arrested two more men on suspicion of murder.

The men, aged 21 and 30, remain in custody for questioning.

A third man has been charged with murder.

Erlin Hasa, aged 34 of no fixed address, has been remanded in custody and will appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow (4 March).

A post mortem was being carried out on the victim today.

Detective Inspector Jim Colclough, from West Midlands Police homicide team, said: “Our efforts to determine what happened yesterday morning continue at pace and these developments are positive.

“We’ve had lots of help from local residents which has been crucial for our investigation − I thank everyone who has assisted so far and I’d urge anyone who hasn’t yet spoken to us, to do so as soon as possible.”
