Susanna Reid has shared the hilarious sentence Prince Philip uttered to her at a Duke of Edinburgh award ceremony.
Susanna Reid was on Good Morning Britain on Monday to pay tribute to the Duke in the wake of his death aged 99.
Susanna shared: “He just did so much. And he obviously had to do small talk with millions of people. And he said to me – it was at a Duke of Edinburgh gold award ceremony, and he told me in the line-up: ‘Did you do one of these?’.
“I said: ‘Yes I did, but you know what? I didn’t finish – I failed to finish’. And he sighed and asked: ‘What on Earth was wrong with you?’
“And in that moment, I just thought it was so good. The whole point of the Duke of Edinburgh is that you try and you persevere.
“And you know? What on Earth was wrong with me?”
It came after Princess Anne paid tribute yesterday, saying: “My father has been my teacher, my supporter and my critic, but mostly it is his example of a life well lived and service freely given that I most wanted to emulate. His ability to treat every person as an individual in their own right with their own skills comes through all the organisations with which he was involved.”
The Countess of Wessex, Sophie, added: “It was right for him and it was so gentle, it was just like someone took him by the hand and off he went. It was very, very peaceful and that’s all you want for somebody, isn’t it?”
